Sara Hawley - Sister of William Hawley
Sara was William's sister and they came to Canada as Home Children. Sara was born in 1891 and William in 1890 in Liverpool, England. After the untimely death of their mother Elizabeth in 1893 at the age of 26, they were put into the Liverpool Sheltering Home and eventually sent to Canada in 1898.
I understand that Sara married a man named Harry Tufts who survived the Halifax explosion around 1912. He may have been a ship captain. They had 1 daughter Hazel Tufts around 1918.She lived in Saint John, New Brunswick and Valleyfield, Quebec. She never married and worked at one time as a secretary at the old DVA hospital (Veterans Hospital) in Saint John. She died in Saint John in the later 1960's or 70's.
Any and all info would be most appreciated. I am posting this query for a friend of mine, Barb Bernier. She is William Hawley's granddaughter. Apparently both children were taken in by a family named Clark in Saint John and William was adopted by them. I do not know what happened to Sara but she does not show up in the 1901 Census which shows the Clark family living in Musquash (near Saint John). At that time, they list William as an adopted son, age 11 years. The adoptive parents were John and Hannah J. Clark.
