Samuel Hay family from Pennsylvania to Indiana
A family document provided by the granddaughter of Daniel Hay (2/16/1843 - 7/8/1878) states that three Hay brothers emigrated from Scotland to Pennsylvania to begin this particular ¡§family clan¡¨ in America. The brothers were Samuel (g-g-grandfather of Daniel noted above), ¡¥Duff¡¦ (Duffel), and an unnamed/unknown third brother. The date of this emigration is unknown. This document notes that ¡§Duffel Hay moved to Vincennes in 1810 or 1811.¡¨My assumption is that this refers to Vincennes, Indiana Territory (Indiana did not become a state until 1816).I think that Samuel went west with Duff and stopped off in Clark county Indiana (I believe this to be what is now known as Jeffersonville, Indiana across the Ohio river from Louisville, Kentucky) and then never continued on with Duff¡Xalso that they traveled down the rivers from PA to Ohio and Indiana.
Samuel had two sons named James and John.He also had three daughters named Sarah, Jane, and Anna. These were all children with his first wife who I believe was Ann Wood. These children were all born in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area (dates unknown).I think that Ann Wood Hay died in Pennsylvania and then Samuel moved to the Clark County, Indiana area where he married Elizabeth Baldosser Holland in March of 1811(Indiana marriage records). This new union between Samuel and Elizabeth produced two boys (George and Samuel Jr) and a daughter (Lucinda who married Napoleon Woods).
This document has an ancestor chart as follows:
Samuel Hay „³James Hay „³John Milton Hay „³Abram Hay „³Daniel Hay
John Milton married a Sarah Jane (no known surname) in Clark County, Indiana 1835.Indiana marriage records indicate that this could have been Sarah Jane Biggs in 1835.My assumption is that this is the same person.
My document mentions several other names such as Michael, Noah, John and Felta, but does not include any data with them therefore, Ido not know the connection.
I know that Samuel had a son by his first marriage named James, but I cannot find a reference to substantiate that.I know that John Milton exist and was married to Sarah Jane.I cannot find that John Milton had a son named Abram Hay, but I know that Abram was Daniel¡¦s father and was born in Pennsylvania and died in Ohio and that Daniel was born in Ohio and moved to Wayne County, Indiana. So did John Milton move back to Pennsylvania where Abram was born or am I looking at two different families?
My question is whether anyone out there can provide me with information that would indicate the direct line between Samuel and Daniel so that I can validate the information that was passed down to me by family.
