Hays / Perryman Connection
Does anyone know the connection between Thomas and Austin? My sister and I have been beating our heads against the wall over this for years with no results. Does anyone know? Thanks for any help.

Thomas Hay and Austin Perryman indentures for Austin Perryman to James Samples 16 February 1822

This instrument made and entered into this 16 day of February 1822, between Thomas Hays and Austin Perryman of the one part and James Sample of the town of Florence and state of Alabama of the other part.
Whence forth that whereas that Austin Perryman (who will be of the age of nine years in May next) of his own freewill and as a condition hath placed and bound himself to James Sample of Lauderdale County, state of Alabama to learn the art, trade or mastery of brick mason trade. The Austin Perryman after the manner of an apprentice to dwell with and serve the said James Sample from the date hereof until the first day of May, 1834, during all which ? the said Austin Perryman his said master shall well and faithfully serve, his secrets keep, his lawful commands everywhere and at all times readily obey. He shall do no damage to his said master or willfully suffer it to be done by others. He shall not waste the goods of his said master nor lend (lose?) them to any at cards, dice, or any unlawful gaming or gaming houses. He shall not frequent (?) from the service of his said master. He shall not absent himself but in all things and at all times he shall carry and behave himself as a good and faithful apprentice ought during the whole ? ? term offer said. And the said Thomas Hay on his part, by an order of the judge of the County Court of said county doth bind said apprentice according to the law, being the nearest connection (to) said minor or infant. And the said James Samples on his part doth agree and bind himself to teach and instruct the said apprentice or cause him to be taught and instructed in the best manner he possesses in the art, trade, or mastery of a brick mason and the said James Samples doth bind himself to keep and provide the said apprentice with good and sufficient meat, drink, (and) lodging for and during the time afforded and other ? and ? for such an apprentice and school him and at ? every respect as the law requires.
In testimony whereof the several parties have here to set their hand and seals this 16th February 1822.
Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of me; W. W. Garrard, clerk of Lauderdale County Court the 16th day of February 1822, by order of the judge of the ? court.
