Re: Thomas Hayward Deal, Kent, England
You are correct in your supposition.Thomas Hayward's son, John Gammon Hayward, my 2nd
GG father left Deal and went to Rotherhithe, Surrey and was a shipbuilder on the Thames there in London. His Son, my ggfather, Gammon Hayward, immigrated to the United States in 1851.He was one of the Mormon recruits, one of many at that time.he lied about his profession, shipbuilding, when he entered the country. He was going straight to Salt Lake City, so he told them he was a carpenter.
I do have a cousin, Dennis Hayward, in Australia who has given me quite a bit about John Marbrook Hayward who left Deal and went there.
I also have quite a bit of information on the Gammon Family of Deal.I am curious about your comment of Croydon. My aunt and I have never connected that location with the Hayward Family.
I do not know if this will help, but I have the following Gammon-Spencer family
John Gammon s/o John Gammon and Ann Elizabeth Harwood
Md: 10 Sept 1818 Deal
Mary Frances Spencer
B: 1789 Deal
William Langworthy Spencer Gammon
B: 11 Apr 1820 Deal
D: Dewc 1826 Deal
Maria Frances Spencer Gammon
B: 1822 Deal
John Edward Gammon
B: 1823 Deal

B: 10 Sept 1826 Bosseville, Calais, France
Take care and fare well,
