Re: Three Mary Heads of Surry, NC
Thanks, Barbara.Jane Burris Cofsky on this forum says that the mother of Melinda Head (Melinda married John Allen) was Mary Head, a daughter of George Head. This Mary Head seems to be the one born abt 1782 who married James Lakey in 1804.
However, if James Lakey lived until 1842, and I have seen nothing that indicates they were divorced, then it seems unlikely that Mary had a child by Isaiah Stewart in 1808, four years into her marriage which is when Melinda was born.
My theory is that the Mary Head that mothered Melinda was a daughter of William Head by his second wife, Sarah Curry. This Mary, b. abt 1796 would have been the right age to marry Thomas Brown in 1816. She would have been very young at the time of Melinda's birth, but since it was an out-of-wedlock affair,I think it's possible.
