Hearns from Georgia in Talladega, AL- 1850
Hello, my name is Michael Mitchell and I have a Hearn in my tree that has been puzzling me.Her name is Matilda Hearn married to Thomas Sullivan 1849 in Talladega, Alabama.I have old paperwork handed down in the family, and my grandmother remembers stories about Thomas and Matilda from her grandmother(their daughter Martha J.) that confirm her maiden name as Hearn from Talladega. She is listed as being born in Georgia in 1832 or 1833.From the paper work I know that Thomas was a horse trader from Tennessee and did business with Talladega plantations.I also know that before the Civil War they were involved in a bakery and grocery store in Talladega. It is also said that they went North during the war, being Abraham Lincoln folk, but that is a family story. From the records on Talladega I have been through there are only two Hearn households in Talladega. From my research I believe her to be the second child of Moses Hearn, son of Elisha Hearn. He was married and started having children in Georgia at the right time, moved to Talladega at the right time along with family, and is listed in the 1850 census as a grocer.I believe Matilda, my ancestor, married and this was the reason she didn't move on with her family, but I have not been able to find any hard proof of this.If anyone can help please let me know!!
