New York/Ohio Hearnes/Hearns

Hello,

I come from a line of Hearnes (Hearns) from Ohio.We've traced back our line to Martha Elizabeth "Julia" Muzzy and possibly a Capt. Gilbert Hearnes (Hearns).Their son, William Beryl Hearnes is my GG grandfather.

We are trying to find the parents of Gilbert Hearnes.He was a Great Lakes Captain.Most sources say that Gilbert came from New York and he was born there sometime between 1824-1826 (even 1830).

There is another Hearnes in the same part of Ohio at this time, a James Hearnes.He also comes from New York and was born about the same time.We are looking for a possible connection there as well.Our family history showed Julia Muzzy's husband as "James Gilbert Hearnes", but it now appears that "James Gilbert" is probably two separate people.

I hope someone out there has some information that could help us.Thank you!
