My maternal grandparents, Martin Luther Heid and Antonette Bohning Heid, moved to Kansas from Lancaster County PA.Family originated in Germany, I don't know where. My understanding is that we are 3/4 German, 1/4 French. I recall a cousin, Charles Heid.Great Uncles Mike and BillMike had two boys, Henry (Hank) and Forest.Henry was murdered in either Spokane WA or Post Falls ID.Forest was married to a Virginia, and they had at lest two children.Mike was married to Bertha.Bill never married and he died when I was about 8 or 9.I was born in 1940.I remember being told that my treat grandfather (don't know which one, Heid or Bohning) was a German sea captain, buried at sea.Hiw crew had once pulled from the sea a mermaid.Reported that it was not nice looking, and bellered womewhat fiercely. They eventually threw it back.I once found some Heids listed at Ellis Island,One or more of them travelled back and forth to Germany. The city of origin could probably be located there. My memory is very faulty, but I think it was Manheim or Bremen. There was also a great aunt named Nancy, called 'Nance".I have somewhere one or two chool books that were passed from one child to the next, with notes in the margins.I also have several boxes of photographs, many unidentified. My mother (Marie Sophia Margaret Heid) was married to Harley Junior Durham. She died in 1992 or 1993.My father died at age 64 (he was born in either 1918 or 1919.My mother was born one year later (actually 363 days later.)
I was born in Marysville, KS, my father attended high school there. My mother attended Catholic school, probably in Hanover KS.
