The following is a post I placed on the Ancestry.com forum some time ago.I've had no replies, but it appears that your Helmer's in Pierce Co. were within a few years and a few miles of my Helmers - if I make a mutual connection down the road I'll let you know, and I hope that you'll do likewise.
I am great grandaughter of Charles Henry Helmer who was born to Andrew Henry Helmer and Clara A. Clark in Deuel County South Dakota in Oct 1879. I find nothing of this family again until 1900 census when Clara Forbes b. 3/1860, Charles Henry Helmer b.10/1879, Hughey Helmer b. 6/1882, and Hearald Helmer b. 3/1890 appear in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Census says all three boys born in North Dakota. Charles Henry Helmer then appears in marriage records in Oconto County, WI with his marriage to my great-grandmother, Frances Tennyson. Charlie and Fanny remained in Oconto where they raised twelve children- Margaret, Bert, Edward, Marcella "Sally", Pearl, Frances, Wesley, Charles, Helen, my grandfather Hugh, Dorothy & William.
Although I have much information on the Oconto Helmers from 1904 to the present day, I am at a standstill trying to go backwards. Census information is questionable at best. Andrew Henry Helmer is listed as being born in both New York and Ohio depending on the census. Clara A. Clark / Forbes is listed as being born in South Dakota and New York depending on the census. On vital records, I've found Andrew Henry Helmer marrying a Clara A. Helmer in Black River Falls, WI in 1878. In 1873, also in Black River Falls, Clara A. Clark is in VR marrying a Willard V. Helmer. Does anyone know anything of these Black River Falls Helmer boys and from whom and where they came? I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they can help and will correspond with anyone looking to tie in to my "Oconto Helmers".
