Ruth Heltzel, 82, obit.

CAMBRIDGE CITY -- Ruth Heltzel, 82, passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 20, 2007, at her home in Cambridge City after an extended illness.

Ruth was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 31, 1924, and has lived most of her life in the Cambridge City community.


She worked in the area as a cook and waitress, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was well known for her love of sports, especially auto racing. She was a member of the American Legion Post 169 Women's Auxiliary and participated in the Legion Honor Guard.

Survivors include one daughter, Harriet Correll of New Castle; one son, Keith (Audrey) Scott of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Luther L. and Florence L. Worland; son, Larry Scott; husbands, Joe Oliger on April 3, 1989, and Kenny Heltzel on Jan. 21, 1995; brother, Jerry Worland.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. David Garman, chaplain for Reid Hospice, will officiate. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.

The Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
