I want to post more specific information about the Hennellys that emigrated from Athenry, Co. Galway. My line comes from Martin Hennelly, whose family settled in Waltham, MA. There are 8gravesites at Calvary Cemetary there hich include 23 Hennellys and others.

Martin's parents, who stayed in Ireland, were Patrick Hennelly (born 1794) and Katherine Rooney (born 1792). Patrick was a farmer whose land was dispossed, so they moved into the town of Athenry (Clarke St.) I believe Patrick and Katherine are buried at the Franciscan Monastery in Athenry. Their other children and the little info I have on them is as follows:

Michael (born 1818-9), married Margaret Clasby, lived in Waltham, children: Mrs. McClusky, who lived in Roxbury, MA, Mary, Bridget, Patrick, Thomas.

Patrick (born 1820-1), "died at sea", father of Mary Roach.

Thomas, a grocer in Waterbury, CT, one son and one daughter.

William, lived in Norfolk, VA, father of Steve Hennelly.

Mary, married Walsh then McCarty, also lived in Waterbury.

My grandfather, Joseph - grandson of Martin -, shortened the surname to the English Henley circa the 1900 Irish-need-not-apply days.
