Mike:

Good luck with your search. Knowing where Patrick was born in Co. Mayo would be of help. Then, if you're ever over there, you could check baptismal records at the church(es) for siblings.

I have learned that Hennellys have been in the Co. Mayo / Co. Galway area for at least 600 years, per a book "in the Hollow", which includes some info on Hennellys from the town of Ower Bridge in Co. Mayo and Headford, just over the line in Co. Galway. Another Hennelly connection I have come across involves the towns of Cong and Ballinrobe, in the same area of Co. Mayo. I have been told the name may be an offshoot of either Celtic names Fennelly or Kennelly.

A Hennelly from Co. Mayo who now lives in the city of Galway once referred to "Mayo Hennellys" and Galway Hennellys". It sounds like you are from the former, and I am from the latter. It seems like the Mayo Hennellys emigrated later, like your Patrick, and many of them went to Chicago and St. Louis, with several lawyers now descended.

Whitepages.com lists about 250 Hennellys in the US. There are a couple dozen in PA. The Galway area phone book had 55 a few years back.

Good luck, and, if you come across Hennellys from Athenry in Co. Galway, please send them my way.

Joe Henley (name changed by grandfather)
