Re: McCune and Henry
First of all I cannot say that the Henry line who married into the McClune family was the same Henrys related to those of Botetourt Co. VA.I also do not know who the William Henry was in Augusta Co. in the mid to late 1700's with a wife named Sarah, last name unknown. I can say that there are coincidences such as the name Alexander in the Henry/McCune line in Augusta and then the name Alexander Henry listed in Hardin Co. TN beginning in the 1840 Census. Also, my ancestor William Henry moved from Botetourt Co. VA to Hardin Co. TN prior to the 1830 Census and then received a land grant on the West Tennessee River in Hardin TN. Noted also is that in James McCune's Will dated 12th April 1794 lists Alexander M. Henry as having received a tract of land on the Tennessee River.
Whether the above are simply coincidences I have no idea. I do know that the Alexander Henry of whom I'm researching was in the household of Sarah Henry Wirt in the 1830 Hardin TN Census; resided next door to Sarah with his new bride in the 1840 Hardin TN Census and then by the 1850 Census Alexander is gone, yet his wife Lucinda b. VA, sons William and Alexander and daughter Margaret A. Henry are residing with Sarah Henry Wirt. I have wondered if this younger Alexander was somehow related to the Alexander Henry son of William Henry and Elizabeth McCune. Also, the name Samuel Henry is written in McCune wills, etc., and in Jackson Co. Arkansas where our William Henry next moved from Hardin Co. TN in 1854, a Samuel Henry came in to this area also and sold lands to a David Johnson as did William Henry and his wife Elizabeth Russell Henry 10-24-1861. These deeds were in numerical sequence.
I can now say that William Henry who died 1814 Botetourt Co. VA with children under the age of 14 named William, Samuel, John and Peggy, was married prior to his marriage to Rachel McElhanny. Recently a researcher contacted me who was a descendant of John Jenkins who married Rachel secondly. It appears that Samuel and Peggy Henry were children by William Henry and wife Rachel McElhanny.I am still searching for the first wife of William Henry who would have been the mother of William and John Henry.
I can say with certainty that my Henry lines originated in England. How they made their way from England to VA at this time I can't say.
