Re: any info on this name
The HENSHILWOOD family surname was my mother's maiden name. Her family originally came to the US back in 1849, from the Lanark, Scotland area. They originally settled in the Syracuse, New York area, where my great, great grandfather was born in 1852. His mother, father, brother and sister, all immigrated from Scotland. They eventually migrated out west to Illinois, where they settled for awhile in Centralia. From there, the family grew and went their own way, as most families do eventually, and lived in various parts of Illinois, out further west where some of them settled in Dallas County, MO, and eventually, my gggrandfather, my grandfather and grandmother, and my mother and all of her siblings, who were born in LaClede County, MO, all moved back east to Brazil (Clay) IN, where they settled down and lived out their lives.
During my research of the HENSHILWOOD surname, I have come across one line of them living down in the Alabama/Georgia area, another smaller line in the New Orleans area, and I have run across one other group who eventually settled up north in Minnesota. None of these other lines, to the best of my knowledge, are related to my line of HENSHILWOODS. If they are, I've never come across a connection of any kind, so to the best of my knowledge they aren't related.
I have traveled over to Scotland, during my research of the family name, and in the Lanark area, which is basically where Glascow is located, you'll find this surname to be a very common one.
I do have a brief history of the surname that I could sent you, if you'd like, along with the HENSHILWOOD coat-of-arm. The coat is extremely hard to track down, as the HENSHILWOOD clan was actually a sub-part of the Lockhart Sept, which was at one time one of the major ruling clans of ancient Scotland. To the best of my knowledge, the HENSHILWOOD surname originated in Scotland, but if you've researched the name back into the 1600s, then you may be right about them having come from Denmark.
If I can provide you with anything further that you might like to know, or need, please contact me via email and I'll be more than happy to share whatever I might have that you can use.
