Re: Herbig in Indiana / Kentucky
Michael, I don't have any Herbigs is Indiana or Kentucky, but have a few that went to California in the early 1900s.I'm just amazed that any other people are searching for some!My Herbigs immigrated in 1892 but I don't know from what area of Germany.Do you have any clues?
Frank Herman Herbig, my great-grandfather married Elizabeth Beyerl from Chemnitz, in what became East Germany. The children all spoke German at home. The rumor is that one grandson (living in California)enlisted in the Merchant Marines during WWII, but was actually a spy, since he spoke fluent German. Our family on the east coast never heard a word about him again.
Frank Herbig was a glassworker. He came to America in March of 1892 with his brother-in-law Frank Beyerl on the ship Gothia and landed at the port of Baltimore.Elizabeth followed 5 months later with 4 young children.
If you think there may be any link with you or someone else researching the Herbigs, I sure would appreciate hearing from you.
