Re: Herman in Newark NJ in 19th C
I found a couple of photos in an antique shop today ... one is of a CLARA HERMAN, whom I believe is the same as the one you have described above. The name, time period and location all seen to match.
In this photo, which was taken at a photographer's studio in Union Hill NJ circa 1909 or 1910 (?), the young woman is dressed in what appears to be white, clutching a bouquet of flowers in her left arm, and a rolled up piece of paper (diploma?) in her right hand. She appears to be about 16 - 18 years of age.
With this was also located another photo which is labeled only "ELLA - CONFIRMATION 1913".The hand-writing is identical to that on Clara's photo and the photos were found next to each other in the shop.
ELLA and CLARA look enough like each other to be twins, so I am assuming a relationship as close as sisters for them.
Does anyone here know who these young woman are? I am trying to locate some existing relative who would like to receive these photos. I'd like to return them to their family.
(I am not related to these people.)
