Dear Jim,
This is a long shot, but if you think it worth pursuing, I will try to find out if we are talking of the same family.I have a cousin in Gelderland Province, the Netherlands who is marrried to Stef Hermsen. He is a true genealogist.I have not seen the work that he has done on his family, but if it compares to what he has done on his wife's family, he can pretty well take you back to the beginning of time on the Hermsen name.He is very authentic in his work. His work can be trusted as gospel. My family Vinkenvleugel, settled in Wisconsin and when I started searching for them, there are none in the US since they shortened their name to Fink. However, Good Fortune led me to Stef who has the Vinkenvleugel Family back to the early 1600 or early 1500's.at the time I first saw his work in 1999, on the entry for my GG Grandfather Hermanus Vinkenvleugel, it simply stated went to 'Amerika" with wife Hendrina and 5 children in 1847.we have made great strides in filling in many of the blanks.I can contact him to see if any of his family ever came to teh states if you believe that any of them came from the Gelederland Province. Please advise.
Jean V. Reese
