LEALs / HERNANDEZs with Spanish Gipsy ancestry
Whilst searching the database of the Archive of the Indies for individuals with the surname LEAL (see my message - http://genforum.genealogy.com/leal/messages/377.html)http://genforum.genealogy.com/leal/messages/377.html), I came across an individual with the surname LEAL who seems to have had a Gipsy background.
LEAL, Jorge migrated from the quarter of Triana in Seville (Andalucia) in Spain to La Habana in Cuba on 13 March 1602. The record in the archive mentions explicitly that Jorge was a Gipsy. Jorge was married to HERNANDEZ, Magdalena. They had two sons who accompanied them when they sailed to Cuba (they are mentioned in the permit): DE HEREDIA, Fabian and DE HEREDIA, Sebastian. Jorge was a blacksmith. They all sailed as part of the group that accompanied DE VALDEZ, Pedro who the records mention as Governor (I assume the new Governor to Cuba).
This information may be of interest for LEALs who have unconfirmed information that they have Gipsy ancestry. If you have or believe you have, please share this information on this forum.
