Herons in Nottinghamshire England

Hi All,
I'm researching my Heron ancestors from Nottingham. I can get back as far as a guy called Avery Heron born 1749 in Mansfield. His parents were John and Mary. Then the trail goes cold. I have always wondered if we link into the Herons of Newark who came down from Bockenfield Northumberland but can find no link. Has anyone out there researched any of these guys ?
Any help would be much appreciated.
