Heron 1670 to 1803

By Colleen Carey February 15, 2010 at 12:13:38

Searching for Heron of Morpeth. The earliest documentation is April 10, 1699 when Ralph Heron married there. His wife is not listed by name. Their first son, James b. 1700, was followed by John 1702, Joseph 1705, Edward 1707, Isabel 1711 and Ralph, born Feb.9, 1713 (though this last son is also found as the son of Thomas Heron and Ann Hudspeth. He marries Francis Scurfield.)
I have no Parish register information beyond the wedding date, above, for Ralph Sr. and I am trying to find out who his parents were to complete my tree. He was married by "carpet begger" the Monday after Easter which may indicate that he was of the Catholic faith. He is listed as having died in 1740 and old letters indicate that several family members are buried in "Mitford Churchyard near Morpeth." Several sons are shoemakers and this may have been the father's trade as well.
As the family married and moved about, they were found diffused from North Shields, Newcastle, South Shields,London and Australia.
My trail culminates in a paper that states a pair of silver 'cruets' are entrusted to the "Old Parish of Morpeth" and inscribed with this: "In memory of Ralph Heron, Morpeth 1700, and his family. R.I.P." presented by his descendant, John Paul Hill, Priest. 1934.
To date, I have been unable to verify the existence of these cruets or if this church exists.
I hope there is someone out there who can help me make this integral connection! Thank you.
