HERON & McCATTY - descendants of Alexander Heron & Anna Maria Heron, nee Smith
The McCattys of St. James are now famous for donating Doctor's Cave Beach to the Government of Jamaica. Many of the McCattys migrated to Canada and some of these Heron/McCatty generation now live in the USA (Michigan area to be exact). Some are descendants of the Drs. McCatty, and others the descendants of their sisters.
The Heron Family are missing some of the important linkages to this part of the Heron family tree (that is the worldwide descendants of Alexander Heron of Wigton Pen Estate, Jamaica, and formerly of Wigtonwhsire, Scotland).Research is being undertaken by Tony Fisher who has the largest Heron database in the Caribbean, and Richard Mitchell who wrote a book on the Jamaican Herons. They can be reached via "Genforum", as from time to time, asthey both write postings.Additional information is needed for our Heron Reunion which is scheduled to be held in July 2012 in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica.
We know that:
(A)Alexander James McCatty was born in 1856 to Ellen Virtue & Alexander George McCatty in Manchester/Jamaica. Ellen, born 1835 was the Grand-daughter of Daniel Virtue esq, owner of Roxborough Castle plantation, near mandeville, Jamaica (now known a the birthplace of Jamaican National Hero, Rt. Excellent Norman Washington Manley, ON, MM, QC).
(B)Alexander George McCatty born Sept. 11,1834 was the son of James McCatty of St. James, & his wife Anna Maria McCatty (nee Heron),a sister of Captain Alexander Woodburn Heron, owner of over 21 plantations in 19th century Manchester, Jamaica (including Wigton, Shooter's Hill, Williamsfield, Kendal, Chudleigh, Russell Place, & Mile Gully) andthe Barbican Great House & plantation in St. Andrew, which was rented to house "Jamaica College" before the now famous boy's schoolmoved to its Old Hope Road location in St. Andrew.Anna Maria McCatty was also the sister of Frances Catherine Woodburn (nee Heron) of Scotland, the wife of Alexander Heron Woodburn.
(c)James McCatty was the son of a sister of Mrs. Anna Maria Heron (nee Smith).I think her name might have been Rebecca, not sure, but will have that checked with either Tony or Richard.
