Would be interested in knowing if the person who responded to Mr. Dennings posting has a docterate or research background on pronounication of names and cultural dialects, and/or have that research published for viewing that would back up statements made pertaining to pronounciating names during different time periods per an area of population, other than just living in a particular area for a year.
My feeling about Mr Dennings statement as to the pronounication of a particular name such as "Heslin", was based on his residence in a particlar area, (as he stated in his response) where he can detect many Boston accents, out weighs someone's short one year stay.
Based on my genealogy research and reading a few good genealogy books, we should keep in mind that in certain areas with many dialects and accents, to research any records with an open mind for misspelling of a particular name.
