Black Oak Cemetery, Grundy County, MO - also known as Pleasant Hill Cemetery
This cemetery is located in Marion Township; S26-T61N-R23W. A church was formerly located here, but was disbanded and the building sold. The cemetery is excellently kept and the stones are in good condition (1964, when the cemetery was recorded).

Funeral Held for Sarah Hessenflow - Services for Laredo Resident conducted at Robertson Funeral Home - Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah M. Hessenflow, 82, who died at her home in Laredo, early Sunday morning were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Robertson Funeral home at Laredo.Mrs. A. H. Smith of Gilman City was assisted by her husband, the Rev A.H. Smith in conducting the service.Music was furnished by Roy and Emil Todd and Jess and Beryl Mecker.They sang three selections."The Old Rugged Cross" "Going down the Valley," and "Gathering Home."Mrs . Henry Storms played the piano accompaniment.Pall bears were Will Chrisman, Art Claypole, Fred Butcher, John Dunlap, Harley Claypole and Albert Burress.Flower bearers were Mrs. Fred McElwee, Lucile Shaney, Mrs. Floyd Patton, Mrs. Arthur Grimes and Mrs. Otho Elliott.Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery North of Laredo.Mrs. Hessenflow had lived in Grundy County all of her life.She was born on a farm north of Laredo March 20, 1857.Her parents were James Andrew and Mary Ann Claypole.She was united in Marriage to Josph H. Hessenflow Dec 11, 1872.He died a number of years ago.Her survivors include two sons and four daughters, Willard Hessenflow, Norcatur, Kan., Charley Hessenflow, Central City, Iowa., Mrs. Mary Bullock and Mrs. Nettie Chaney, Laredo.Mrs Onie Peterson Almena, Kan., and Mrs. Lucy Minnick, Carlyle, Wyo.She also leaves 19 Grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.She had been a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church since her girlhood.

Salem East Cemetery, Grundy County, MO
This cemetery is in Marion Township; S2-T61N-R23W. The cemetery is in the yard of the East Salem Methodist Church. The grounds and fence are in excellent condition and many of the old, tall monuments have been replaced by low, well-kept stones (1963). The cemetery was recorded in 1963 by Mrs. B. F. Hoover and Mrs. O. L. Livingston.

D. B. HESSENFLOW, son of F. E. and Helen (Mar) Hessenflow, was born in Ringo county, Iowa, October 22, 1862. His present residence is two and one half miles southeast of Dunlap. Mr. Hessenflow was married to Margaret J. Shepherd, March 8, 1885. They have five children: Ohletta, born August 6, 1887; Ezza G., born February 9, 1892; James R., born February 7, 1893; Gussie E., born March 27, 1895; Anna E., born February 6, 1898. Mr. Hessenflow came to this county when three years old, and has lived on the farm all his life. His farm is conveniently located, near church, school and market.
Mrs. Hessenflow is a daughter of Isaac and Sarah Shepherd, old citizens of this county. Mr. Shepherd died September 22, 1893, and Mrs. Shepherd, June 5, ? . Mr. and Mrs. Hessenflow, Sr., have been citizens of this county since 1865. The former was born August 6, 1833, and the latter August 22, 1835.

Ward Cemetery, Livingston County, MO
This cemetery is located in Creamridge Township, Livingston County; S7-T59N-R23W. It is about two miles south of Farmersville. The old road which formerly went past the cemetery has been abandoned so that the cemetery is now back in a field about 1/4 mile from the road. In 1965, it was beautifully mowed, and well fenced with stones in reasonably good repair, but has not received much care since 1971. The cemetery was recorded in 1965 by Mrs. B. F. Hoover and Mrs. D. Hesler.
