Patsy Hicks, NC "Freed Colored Woman"
I'm searching for information on Patsy Hicks, who was in the 1820 census of Surry Co., NC as head of household "freed colored woman" with two "freed colored males under 14".In the marriages of Surry Co., Wiseman Olvey married Patsy Hicks, 27 Apr 1829, and in 1830 census of Surry Co., a freed colored woman was enumerated in his household, with a freed colored male under 10.I estimate Patsy was born about 1795 and in NC.In Aug 1830, a Bastardy Bond was posted in Wilkes Co., NC, the State vs Patsy Hicks and Wiseman Olvey, charged with adultry.I believe the marriage was illegal and the under 10 child was theirs. I cannot find anything on Patsy Hicks/Olvey after 1830.Wiseman Olvey died in 1834 without a will.Any scrap of help would be greatly appreciated.
