Dear Penny,
thanks for your reply, at the moment.
The earliest spelling of Hiern (without the E) is:-
Hiern El'nr married Dan Elders in the village of Great Tew,
Oxfordshire.in 1612
This the same village that the HIERNE's and the Hiorne,s
is found in different periods,
I think the singular and the plural played a big part in forming these names, and with my name H-iorn-s and the way
the metal is spelt IRON and pronounced IORN, giving us
another name HIRONS, when I was very young, made this mistake myself. Great fun, is'nt it, could it be, wRONg of Southampton.check on the IRIONS forum.
