Just found your very interesting post, and the name of Francis BALFOUR Heggie, Sr., b 1817 Scotland. The middle-name of Balfour was instantly recognizable to me in connection with my notes of the history of the parishes of Newburgh, Fife, & Abernethy Perthshire, Scotland. Two brothers, David Balfour Hay & Peter Hay (sons of John Hay Balfour of Leys) are buried in Newburgh Cem.There was a Sir Michael Balfour of Denmiln in 1652.Along the borders of the parishes of Newburgh & Abernethy is the parish of Abdie, Fife, Scotland.Lindores Abbey was located within the borders of Abdie Parish, while the estates of Mugdrum & Carpow was located within the borders of Newburgh & Abernethy Parishes, respectively. The estates of Mugdrum & Carpow were both owned by the descendents of John Hay Balfour of Leys, who was a decsendent of Peter Hay, younger, of Leys.
Isabel Hay of Strathmiglio Parish, Fife, Scotland md Mar 20 1778 to David Lawson chr Sep 14 1755 in Newburgh, son of John Lawson & Christane Lyell (my 4th great grandparents), a weaver, who was employed by James Cathcart, Esquire, of Pitcairly Mansion in Newburgh.
Apparently, three members of the Heggie-Higgie family, perhaps brothers, hailed from the Parish of Abdie, Fife, Scotland area, and settled in Racine Co, Wisconsin. They were: John Higgie b 1814, Francis Balfour Higgie b 1817 & William b 1820, all three b in Scotland. My main interest is in the family & descendents of the John Higgie b 1814, but would gladly share info with those who will share with me about any members of this Higgie family of Abdie, Fife, Scotland &/or Racine Co, WI areas.
My grandfather was George Henry Lawson b 1863 Kinburn (Constance), Huron Co, Ontario, Canada. His brother was David Theodore Lawson, I, who kept in touch with our relatives in Scotland & Canada, and who wrote a rather lengthy history of our Lawson family, including his Uncle David, a poet in Newburgh.
