Thomas Hybarger 2nd Lt. - 13th Missouri "Wood's" Cavalry CSA
I'm looking for any additional information on a Thomas Douglas Hybarger who
was a soldier from Missouri in the American Civil War, a 2nd Lieutenant in
the 13th Missouri Calvary. During the civil war his wife, children and
father-in-law (William F. McBride) and family were living in Long Lane,
Dallas County Missouri. Thomas and his wife's (Sarah "Sadie" McBride) family
moved to Dallas County Missouri from Greene County Tennessee during the late
1850's.
Thomas Douglas Hybarger was a 2nd Lieutenant in Wood's Regiment Co. A and
then designated to the 14th Missouri Calvary Regiment. Later the regiment's
size was increased and redesignated to the 13th Missouri Calvary Regiment
"Woods Partisan Rangers" commanded by Col. Robert C. Wood. Thomas Hybarger's
group served primarily as an unattached or independentunit although it was
assigned to Marmaduke's Calvary division. This also could have been the same
unit that ran with William Clarke Quantrill, which became Quantrill's
Raiders (some family members say that Thomas might have run with this group
just before he died).
Thomas saw action in the following battles:Pine Bluff, Arkansas
10/25/1863; Jenkins Ferry4/30/1864 and in numerous engagements of Price's
1864 Missouri raid. The regiment surrendered at Shreveport, LA and was
paroled in June 1865.At the time of its surrender it was part of the 1st
Missouri Calvary Brigade, 1st Calvary Division, Trans-Missouri Department.
A roster was compiled of POW records from those who surrendered at
Shreveport (and/or prisoners of war in Arkansas) and Thomas D. Hybarger was
included.
Thomas D. Hybarger is on the list of POW's at the following website:
http://missouridivision-scv.org/mounits/woodregcav.htmhttp://missouridivision-scv.org/mounits/woodregcav.htm
The family story has it that Thomas was killed by the North some time near
the end of the war and we don't know where he was killed or where he is
buried.
Can you provide any additional information on Thomas D. Hybarger, my
gg-grandfather.
Thanks for any and all help, I have been trying to obtain information on
this relative for over 8 years and am still without leads (really
frustrating too).
