Many thanks for remembering me!I keep meaning to get down and research my family tree properly as my father is 85 and if I need to ask him any questions I think I'd better do that soon.
You've found the marriage details of my great grandfather. My father knows he lived at a house called Daisy Mount in Maghull, Liverpool. In fact I have a photo of him on my mantlepiece.
He became a captain in the merchant navy and had the nickname of 'Mad Jack' as he apparently had a fierce temper - which has come down the male line since! There are two notable points about him that I know about. Firstly, one of his crew in the late 1890s was a man called Stanley Lord who went on to captain the Californian which was the ship near the Titanic the night it sank. Lord was blamed for not going to help the Titanic quicker than he did and despite many attempts to prove his innocence he is still blamed for contributing to the loss of life that night.
The second point is that he was captain of a ship that rescued the crew of a stricken Spanish or Portuguese ship in a severe storm in the Bay of Biscay (I think) and he was given a bronze statue of Christopher Columbus. My father has the statue.
Thanks again for remembering me and I must look at the Family Search Pilot site to see what else there is.
