Samuel, born Oct 1860,was the son of Cal and Louisa (Fleishman) Hilburn.He as educated in the schools of Xenia and attended Bryant and Stratton Business College in Detroit, MI.

He came to Miles City, MT, in 1882, and engaged in the mercantile business. Later he located to Terry, MT, where he operated a store until May 1891, when he moved to Kalispell where he was in the mercantile business for three years.He served one term as treasurer of Flathead County.At the outbreak of the Spanish-American was, Samuel enlisted in the National Guard.He became a member of Company H, First Regiment of Montana Volunteer Infantry and was sent to the Philippines.He remained one year, and received his honorable discharge in San Francisco, Oct 1899.Samuel returned to Kalispell and was in the mercantile business until 1900, when he was again elected county treasurer, serving four years. Samuel was elected mayor of Kalispell, serving two years.He then engaged in the warehouse and store business. On Jun 1914, Samuel was appointed postmaster of Kalispell, and reappointed in Sep 1918.

On 22 Nov 1915, Samuel married Mrs. Grace Darling Close, a native of Minnesota

George died at Vashon, WA, 15 Jun 1947, age 87, where he had moved to be with his stepdaughter, Mrs. Oliver Hockley.His obituary is in the Daily Inter Lake, Kalispell, MT, 20 Jun 1947.
