Thomas Hilburn b. ca 1834 South Carolina

On the 1850 Federal Census, Thomas Hilburn is lissted inthe household of his father, Hillery Hilburn, living in Spartanburg, South Carolina.Does anyone know what happened to him or where he went after this census.I have the death certificate of my great grandmother, Malinda Hilburn, which lists her father as Thomas Hilburn and her mother as Elizabeth Winter.On the 1860 Federal Census, I found Elizabeth Hilburn living in the household of William Winter.Am trying to make a connection that makes sense in order to knock down this brick wall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
