[Clipping found in the pocket of a Hildreth-Conant family diary. Date and newspaper unknown, but John Garibaldi Sargent was Vermont Attorney General 1908-12 before becoming U.S Attorney General 1925-29.]

DAVID W. HILDRETH of Newport, Vt., editor of the Express and Standard, was brought before the supreme court in Montpelier Wednesday of last week on an information filed by Attorney General J. G. Sargent, to answer to a charge of contempt of court.In an editorial in March the court was criticized for its decision in the case of the state against Boston & Maine Railroad company.The writ charged that Mr. Hildreth did "defame, degrade and insult the supreme court."Mr. Hildreth plead guilty and was fined $200.
