My e-mail addy is [email protected]

After getting your question I asked another cousin who still lives in the Pike Co., AL area ... the following was his response:

Well, what a coincidence! As a matter of fact,my wife’s mother was a Barefoot before her marriage! My wife’s grandfather was Dewey Barefoot (born 1903).I knew him well, and he and Mrs. Barefoot were fine people.I loved them almost as much as I loved my own grandparents.Dewey’s father was Calvin D. “Pete” Barefoot (born 1868).Pete’s father was John Barefoot (born 1818), and John’s father was David Barefoot (born 1791), and he was the first of the family to come here to Pike County, Alabama (from Columbus County, NC).

I checked my BAREFOOT file, and I see that I have George W. Barefoot married to Armon Teador (sic) in Barbour County, Ala. on 1 June 1845.I really am not sure about this, but it appears that George W. Barefoot was probably a son of David Barefoot and therefore a brother of my wife’s great-great grandfather, John Barefoot (1818 – 1897).I have an enlarged photograph of John Barefoot hanging up here in my home.My wife’s family has a LOT of George Barefoots in the various generations. Now Barbour County is just across the Pea River from the Tennille, Ala. community here in Pike County, where my wife’s Barefoot ancestors all lived so I’m POSITIVE thatthe George W. Barefoot you asked about is a close relative.I just am not positive of his exact connection. It’s always been my understanding that George W. Barefoot and his family left here and moved to Texas. The old Barefoot cemetery (unfortunately now destroyed by the man on whose land it stood) is located within a few hundred yards of the Pike – Barbour County line (the dividing line being Pea River).

I know nothing about the Tedder-Teador family or any connection to the Hilliard family.

Hope that helps you a bit.Am not sure, but I believe I have been contacted in the past by a descendant of Geo. W. and Armon T. Barefoot. It’s been years ago, and I’m not sure if I still have her letter, but I’ll look and see.
