The only 2 Thomas's I have around that age are

held by The National Archives, Kew
WO 97/462/158

so I would assume he was born about 1790

and
Thomas Hillyard
Born Abt 1801
wife Annie Shepherd born abt 1845 md abt 1868 (2nd wife ?)
child
Thomas Francis Hillyard
born abt 1870
md
Helen McKenzie (f - Wm m - Marion Sanda)
on 9 February 1895
