Hi Billie:
Look at the post on rootsweb by Tom Hoot which has the stuff I looked and he sort of stole. He said he would give me credit.Anyway one of the marriages of the girls is wrong as she is really the daughter of James B and she married a Lawrence and came to Texas with James B and his family.
Anyway in 1830 there was a Gilas Hilyard on the census. This is how it is transcribed. I just did a lot of looking one day and found the information and I told him it was not verified but it was my theory.Mom always said that there was a Silas Hilliard who was his father. She had the wrong one.I think that it is possible that the father of Silas was a Jesse or maybe a James.I found them in SC and I know there are others.I just don't have any means of researching SC beyond the internet and I also did not find much info on Louisiana on the net.Louisiana was still a territory at the time he was born and I'm not sure where the records are.
I also found a church record where James and Elizabeth might have gotten a letter of transfer after the 1860 census and gone to the county where A A was.Its been solong since I looked at this stuff I don't where I'm going to find it to send to you and see what you think.
Albert Allen married Mary Angela Roberts and I finally got a break on her mother's maiden name.It was Rogers. If you type -John "The Powder Maker" Rogers in Google you'll find info on my 5th grgrandfather and his wife and family. It is fascinating.
