HILLS Family in New York
Please pardon this long post.Know that I would make it shorter if I could.
After several years of searching, my uncle discovered our family name was definitely HILLS instead of HILL, so that has been a wonderful blessing. He uncovered land purchases and sales in Lewis County, NY by Ebenezer B. HILLS and his wife Hannah. The land was purchased in 1821 and sold in 1831.I do not know Hannah's maiden name.
According to 1820 census records in Lewis County, Eb and Hannah had 4 children between 1810-1820, 2 males and 2 females. One of the males was my g-g-grandfather -- James Melvin Hills.I do not have the 1830 census for Lewis County. In 1840, the family is in Erie County, OH, part of the Connecticut Firelands. The census shows another daughter b.1825-1830, and a male b.1835-1840.This could be a son or grandson, given everything.I do not have names of any of these children other than my direct ancestor.
I've been in touch with a few of you on this list, who have sent me some excellent information.Thank you.All others ... I am seeking any descendants. Also trying to tie Ebenezer into known HILLS lines. There are many places to look, but I must begin someplace. So from the information I have, two avenues look extremely promising to me, and I hope some of you will be able to help.
One is the family of Eliab HILLS and Naomi Woodworth.I especially like James:
Eliab5 (Samuel4, Smuel3, John2, William1) b. Lebanon, New London Co., Conn., March 9, 1728; d 1773. Married at Lebanon, November 9, 1757, Naomi Woodworth.
Consider b. Lebanon June 25, 1762; d--
Naomi, b. Lebanon Feb. 29, 1764
James b. Lebanon ???m. Hannah McCall
Jerusha b (bapt) Lebanon June 23, -- ;d --
Polly (Mary) b (bapt) Lebanon May 9, 1773; d--
The other is Elisha HILLS, married to Elizabeth Pitkin.I know one of his children was Horace m. Almira Wilcox.Seeking the names of other children.Hoping one is my Ebenezer.
Any help or leads on finding my link to all of you will be much appreciated. Thanks for reading all of this!
