Please note: I didn't write down how the Hilts name was spelled at the time. Also, Elisabeth was the common spelling until about the 1800's when it started to be spelled in the English was Elizabeth. Also, if you don't know already, the first name was the baptismal name, the middle name was what the person went by. Some families carried on this Catholic/Lutheran tradition for years, yours I guess didn't. In my family the men were still being called by the middle names in the early 1900's, and by that time I bet nobody really knew how it started.
