August Heine/Hinckle/Henkel born in 1840 in Cassel, Prussia
I am trying to find the parents of my great grandfather August Hinckle/Henkel.The family story that I've learned says that when August was about 15, his father put him on a train with money for passage to America from some port.August, not wanting to get caught, changed his name from Hinckle/Henkel to Heine, after the German poet Heinrich Heine. My grandfather's, August's son, birth record in St. Louis, Missouri in 1879, says that August was fron Cassel, (now Kassel).I've tried to find records for this city but have learned that it was a German manufacturing area during the Second World War and thus was heavily bombed by the allies.Because of these bombings, most records were lost.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
