Re: Ct Hinckleys- Preston, Bridgeport

We are also working with John Hinckley, who you had earlier postings with.

We think (but can't fully confirm) that our direct relative is William Hinckley who may have moved from a farm in Preston CT around 1853, with his son John H. Hinckley, John's wife Francis and their small children John F. Hinckley, Ida and Ella. We connect with John F. Hinckley as a direct relative.

Confriming William is the problem as there may have been two Williams from Preston, Hebron or Stonington. We have no confrimation of a middle initial which makes it even more difficult.

To further confuse the matter, City of Bridgeport death records- 1855-1870, show two Williams (no middle initials or middle names shown)- with death dates and ages very close to one another in 1857:

1. William Hinckley, died 12/2/1857, age 72, born Stonington, last residence Bridgeport. (page: 14)
also...
2. William Hinckley, died 12/5/1857, age 72, last residence-Bridgeport. (page: 17)

There ar no William Hinckleys of his generation buried in Bridgeport that we are aware of.

At first we thought maybe it was a typo in the records and that there was only one.....with a double entry. That may not be the case however- may be two of them.

As far as other possible children of our William Hinckley, we highly suspect (but can't confirm) that George S. Hinckley may have may have been another child, making him an older brother to John H. Hinckley. He is buried in the same plot as John H. Hinckley at Mountain Grove Cemetery- Bridgeport. George's parents on his death certificate are listed as William and Lucy- from Preston.

Just wondering, are you also a Hinckley?
