There certainly is many of us (Hinckleys) scattered around the country and world!

I can't imagine how you were able to take your family back so far....how long did this take?

Any idea why some of them dropped the "c" (or added it)?

We thought originally that we had come from Hinckley, England...but who knows. My sister actually went there and enjoyed the visit very much!

I am enjoying the search for family members although it is VERY time consuming as you may realize-

My group of Hinckleys are ok- hard working, honest people (so far)- many who worked the land andmanaged to stay out of trouble. It's rather sad to learn some of them died much too young due to sickness, childbirth etc. I wish sometimes that I could have a few minutes with them....ask a few questions etc., but we don't have that opportunity and have to draw conclusions from scattered old sources.

How long have you been researching? Are you located in the US?

To answer your question about William, I went through the Bridgeport newspapers at the time and found no references or obits for either William or his son John H. (Our direct connection). As it turns out, the newspapers of that time were TERRIBLE....full of advertising, badly organized and formatted.

We also have a problem finding John H. Hinckley's (William's son) death record...it is NOT in Bridgeport or Preston, although he is buried in Bridgeport. It would seem there has to be one somewhere- usually recorded in the locality where they died.
