HINDS, James P., NJ 1850

I am looking for information on my grandfather James P. HINDS who is shown in the Morris Township, Morris County, New Jersey 1850 U.S. Federal Census as living in the household of William and Elizabeth BAIRD. His age is shown as 12.I believe his parents were John HINDS and Jemima BAIRD.Since I can not find them in the census for that year, I must assume that something had happened to separate the family.If anyone can provide information on this I would be most appreciative.
