Hello Jack: this is the information i have about your people.
Federal Census 1910 Georgia lists a Felton Hinesley aged 9 in the household of his father Will A. Hinsley in Carroll Co. Will was 45. His wife is listed as Ada (40) and the children are: William? (19), Lizzie Belle (15), Ohnie Ray (11 f.), Felton (9), Hulett (7 m), Glen (5), Wayne (1).
Federal Census 1900 Georgia has a William A. hinsley (9.3.3.28) white male Aug 1864, 35, b. GA in Carroll Co in Countyton? his wife is listed as Ida (Nov 1869) and the children are Henry (Feb 1891), Merty (Jul 1887 stepd), Willie (Mar 1890), Lizzie (May 1894), Annie R. (Jun 1899). I can'tfind him in 1880. In 1870 Census there is a William aged 6 listed in the household of his father Thomas H. Hinesly (house 1225, Carroll Co. 4 Aug 1870 Carrollton P.O.). Thomas H. is 45 GA farmer $300 Real Estate and $300 Personal Estate. His wife is Elizabeth (42) and the children are: John (17), Alexander (14), Georgia (12), Isabella (11), Thomas (8), William (6), Charles (4).
The Federal Census 1860 for Georgia lists the household of Thomas H. Hinesley (35 GA) in Carroll Co, No 167). His wife is Elizabeth (32), Children: Mary A. (13), Nancy (11), Frances (9), John F. (7), Alexander (5), Sarah (3), Julia? (1).
In the Federal Census 1850 there is Thomas Hainsley (25 GA) with wife Elizabeth (22 GA), and children Mary (3 GA), Nancy (1 GA). In the Census of 1840 there is one household listed in Carroll Co. Alford Hinesley in the 729th district. He is between 40-50, he has a son (10-15--possibly Thomas), a son 5-10, his wife is 30-40, and a daughter under 5. Alford is also listed in 1830 in Henry Co and in 1830 in Wilkinson Co. There is an Alfred Hainsley in Federal Census 1850 in Carrol Co. he is 56 born in South Carolina. His wife was Nancy (50) and the children were Frances (19), Marion (18), Nancy (14), Owen (12), Elizabeth (10), Alfred (8), John M. (6), Sarah (4), and Morris (1).
An Alford Hinesley married Nancy Phillips 6 Sept 1821 in Jasper Co. It seems Alford was born 1794 in South Carolina. In the Census of 1790 there are 2 hinsley households in SC: Mary hinsley in Laurens Co. in whose household were 2 males under 16 and 3 females; and Thomas Hynsley in Orangeburgh. There were 2 males over 16, 2 males under 16, 3 females. This is probably your line because there was a Thomas Hinesley (1761-16 April 1834) who had a son named Alford (b. 1794 in SC). Thomas was born in Queen Anne's Co, Maryland. He married a woman named Fankie and settled in Carroll Co. He served with distinction in the Revolutionary War as a captain. His children were Alford, James W. (1809 GA), Miles P. (1814 NC), William (1815 GA), Alexander H. (1820 GA) and David S. I think he also had daughters, but I don't have their names. He enlisted in Chatham Co, NC in 1776. Alford (sometimes changed to Alfred) is from a surname. Two Hindsleys in Maryland married Alford women. Nathaniel Hindsley married Mary Alford on 30 Sept 1737 at St. Luke's Church in Church Hill, MD. Thomas Hindsley married Rachel Alford at St. Lukes in 1743. Either one of these could be Thomas's father. A Nathaniel went to Chatham Co NC before 1777. I hope this helps! Take care, Leonard
