Hinesley/Hinesly/Hindsley/Hinsley migration

By Bernis Hinesley November 07, 2005 at 05:13:12

Does anyone have a timeline worked out, recounting the migration from VA, for the ancestors of Thomas A. Hinesley, born 1761 in Queen Anne's Co., MD., and how the families spread across the US? The information I have does not name Thomas’ father. It does point toward four brothers as possibilities, Nathaniel, Peter, Thomas or Solomon.Thomas A’s first son was named Alford and it was a custom of some families to use the maiden name of the grandmother as a name of their first son. This logic rules out Peter and Solomon, but there is still a problem, both Nathaniel and Thomas had wives, Mary and Rachel, named Holford, likely pronounced Olford.I lean toward Thomas and Rachel as his parents, because the Thomas name continued to be used several times among the descendants. I know that Thomas A. and Alford settled in GA.Alford’s son John Jefferson, my great grandfather, and several members of the family then moved to AL.Some settled there, John J. others later moved on to AR, where several of the descendants live today.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
