In 1850 William Lucas Hinshaw is found in the Madison County, Iowa census with wife, Nancy I.Living with the family were Sarah, age 59, b. North Carolina, Catherine, age 32, b. Ohio, Silas, age 18, b. Indiana, and Rebecca, age 16, b. Indiana. In 1860 Rebecca is living with Adam and Catherine Surber.I do not know what happened to her after that.I have found no further record of her.
Adam and Catherine Surber had three children:Elias Bryant, Eliza Anne, and John William (my great-grandfather).In addition, Adam had nine children from his first marriage to Elizabeth Harrell.
I have looked through Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy and not found the parents of Elias.I suspect that his parents were disowned from the Quaker religion prior to his birth so he does not show up.I have found the name Elias in only one line of the Quaker Hinshaw's, so suspect that this Elias is somehow connected to that line, but can't prove it at this time. Have you checked out the Hinshaw Family Web Page?Much of the information above can be found on that page. http://www.blueneptune.com/~hinshaw/index.htmhttp://www.blueneptune.com/~hinshaw/index.htm
