I'm sure by now you have learned who the father of Anna C Hite Wood was, but I was looking for information about perhaps a brother of hers, a Zachariah Hite who was born about five yeas before her, in 1790.He married Mary Carter and moved to Memphis, Tennessee between 1824 and 1837.Zachariah ran a ferry there when the city was just a small town.He died in 1840 and was buried in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee.
Zachariah had two sons that I know of, William Henry Hite and Richard C Hite, and one daughter, Mary V Hite, all of whom moved to Arkansas.Richard died in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas and his death record states he was born in Petersburg, Va, the son of Zachariah Hite and Mary Carter. Zachariah's wife, Mary S Carter Hite, was living with their son William Henry Hite in Hot Spring County, Arkansas when the 1850 census was taken. The census says she was 45, but she was actually born in 1799, making her a bit older. And in 1860, giving her age as 55, Mary was living with her daughter, Mary V, and her husband, John M Brisbin, in Little Rock. And in 1880, giving her correct age of 80, she was still living with her daughter, Mary V Brisbin in Little Rock. She died in 1883 and is buried in the Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas.Do you kow anything about a Zachariah who lived in Bland, Petersburg, Virginia?
