Here are some facts and here comes the controversy!!!! The one called Vincent Hobbs Sr WAS NOT in the Rev War. It was his son Vincent, referred to as Jr, who was in the militia when the war started so would have automatically gone into active duty in the Rev War. Makes sense doesn't it. Now more controversy!!!! Documents I have seen and are available to researchers, show "VINCENT Hobbs Sr" is not correct. Per his son, Job's Rev War Pen App he clearly states his father's name to be VINSON and his mother Ruth Thomas. Also if you look at the 1810 Census of (Mendota)Washington Co., VA you will see he is shown as head of the household and states his name as VINSON Hobbs. His son Ezekiel is also listed living on the same property I think this satisfactorally proves the name VINSON, and the Sr and Jr designations have caused much confusion and misconceptions to researchers from way back. Which is why I no longer participate in family research. Just for information!!!! I applied for membership in the SAR tracing my direct proven line back to "Vincent Hobbs Sr." The SAR search returned stating there was NO EVIDENCE FOUND showing "Vincent Hobbs Sr" was in the Rev War. I think the DAR marker was placed in error.
