HOBGOOD/KNOWLES--1803s GA-1920s TX
The following is what I have posted at the Hopgood, Knowles, Posey, Arkansas , Georgia and Texas forums. As of today, I now have the names of HOBGOOD and Simpson to add to this query. With HOBGOOD and Simpson, we are trying to make a connection to: Joseph T. Knowles b. 1831 GA d. 1910 TX m. 1847 Fayette Co., GA to Sarah HOBGOOD b. 1831 GA d. bef. 1870...and their son, Charles R. Knowles b. c1859 GA d. 1920 TX m. 1878 GA to wife Samantha Simpson--possibly nicknamed "Patsie" (no dates nor places known). So, as far as we can figure out, until proven otherwise...this Patsie Hopgood Knowles just might actually be Samantha Simpson Knowles. And, the name Hopgood just might be HOBGOOD and belong to Sarah HOBGOOD Knowles, wife of Joseph T. Knowles and mother to Charles R. Knowles!Confused?Well, I certainly am.:-)
With this, I know that Joseph might have migrated to Texas by himself, if Sarah died before 1870, and probably went with his son, Charles...as Charles and his wife migrated to Texas around 1889-1891 (these are the two years of birth for the following Hattie Knowles Posey, in Arkansas, that I have been sent and found).
This is what I know on Hattie--and was previously told her mother's name was:
Looking for any kind of record that could find me the parents and siblings of David Brison/Bryson Posey and Hattie "Jackie" Kie/Ky KNOWLES. David's death certificate shows that he was born in 1881 in Cass Co., TX and died Jan 21, 1931 in Palestine, TX of pnuemonia; burial East Hill Cemetery, Palestine, TX. David was married to Hattie (b. March 15, 1889 AR to Charles R. KNOWLES and Patsie Hopgood; d. Dec. 15, 1962 Houston, TX buried Humble, TX) about 1908/1909 in TX. They had five children (all deceased) in Texas: Ida Pauline b. 1910 TX d. 1973 Riverside Co., CA buried Perris, CA, Lottie Morine b. 1917 Red River Co., TX, Ouida "Pete" Loney[f] b. TX, Zed Richard b. TX and David Bryson, JR. b. 1924 TX d. Nov. 26, 1934 TX.
I have found David, Hattie and 4 children living in Titus Co., TX on the 1920 census.
I know that Hattie was Indian...one of Ida's sons had his Indian card...but, what tribe and how much we do not know (the card and info was lost years ago and this son died in 1996 of cancer). We have been told that David, Sr. was part or more Indian (possibly Creek), too...but, cannot find anything to prove this.
We need all the help we can get on this one. I've come across tons of Posey's in TX, but just can't seem to find a place for David, Sr. with any of them. I have not been able to connect with a Hobgood/Hopgood, yet, for this family that links it all together.
Thanks in Advance. And please email me. LiRae
