Conrad, Frederick Co., MD; 1743
I am not researching this family, just entering information from the book "Pioneers of Old Monocacy" by Tracey & Dern:
"Conrad Hockersmith joined the settlement on Flat Run with a survey on September 22, 17453 for 'Low Mill,' which was located 'between the two branches of Middle Creek of Toms Creek.'In today's terms this was about a mile and a half east of the center of Emmitsburg.Five years later Hockersmith had 'Long Mile' surveyed, and in 1758 he enlarged his total acreage with a 'Resurvey on Long Mile and Low Mill.'By 1790 the name was spelled Hockensmith and so it remained in the Emmitsburg area for many generations."
"On December 1, 1785 the following lots were sold in the newly laid-out town of Emmitsburg: (among others were lot 5 to Jacob Hockersmith, lot 6 to Conrad Hockersmith, and lot 26 to Michael Hockersmith.)"
