Re: Washington Co. Oregon 1860: Hockett/Griffith surviving children
Hello Peter,My daughter, Chris, informs me, Maxine Griffith McCormic, that you are a descendant of Jesse Hockett, youngest brother of my great-grandmother, Rachael Hockett Griffith. My grandfather, Jesse Nathan Griffith, was born in Washington County, Territory of Oregon, Feb. 8, 1852. My local library where I volunteer has a copy of the documentary of William Hockett's travels on the Oregon Trail at the age of nine. I was quite elated when I read the title page mentioning William's name. My father's name was Rolla Dale Griffith,he was known as Hen or Henry, by his family and locals. He was Jesse Nathan Griffith's 3rd son - His mother's name was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Veronica Clayton, daughter of Oregon pioneer Jesse Clayton, who also came out on the Oregon Trail in the late 1840's or '50s. He settled along the Umpqua River. Do you have a connection with the Iowa Hockett's to see if anyone knows about the Hockett bible that was mentioned in the documentary? Also I have a friend named Janie Long who's husband (sorry I can't remember his name right now I believe,is also a descendant of Jesse Hockett. I will be meeting with her soon, so will find out more and let you know if they have any further knowledge about Jesse's decendants.
In Harmony,Maxine Griffith McCormic
