Re: Washington Co. Oregon 1860: Hockett/Griffith surviving children
A few years ago my relatives, Maxine and Christine McCormic posted a few messages to you on this site. Today I am delving into more of our Hockett/Griffith family history.
Our great-grandmother Rachel Hockett Griffith is of particular interest to us because of her trip on the Oregon Trail and also because she protected her younger brothers to ultimate safety and thriving.
Solomon went to Washington State and married a gal from Iowa in Iowa. His death is recorded in northeastern Washington near Colville.
William wrote his memoires which resulted in a book and a film about their family's harrowing trip on the Oregon Trail.
Jesse Mills Hockett was a toddler sibling whom Rachel chose to tuck under her wing and nurture until she died an untimely death at the young age of 26.
I know that Rachel's little brother Jesse, your ancestor, and his progeny have a history here in Oregon that is formidable! I would be grateful to learn more about Jesse and his descendants.
Meanwhile, I'm hoping that I can connect not only with you but also with some of our other Hockett descendants.
Love to hear from you.Mary Louise Griffith
