Hi Charlene,
Here's what's on the 1850 Long Creek, Carroll Co., Arkansas Census:
Alexander Hodge age 39 (M)...Tenn (Farmer)
Mary age 37 (F)..............Tenn
William A. age 13(M).........Tenn
Mary Ann age 9 (F)...........Ark
Frances E. age 5 (F).........Ark
Samuel J. age 2 (M)..........Ark
Elijah F. age 2 (M)..........Ark
Elijah would be our Elijah Frank (or Franklin) Hodge who married Elizabeth A. Stanford. I did find E.A. Stanford in the 1870 Lamar Co., Texas Census. Her parent's were B.A. & Martha Stanford. Mary (Hodge) England had said that Frank was a twin & that the brothers had both married sisters. The Lamar marriage records did show that they both married Stanfords. I also found them in the 1870 Dallas Co., Texas, Precinct 1 Census. Here's what I found there:
Alexander Hodge age 60
Polly age 59
William A. age 29 (I think this is a mistake)
Samuel J. age 21
Elijah F. age 21
Frances age 24
I think the age for William is wrong. He should be about 33 & his sister Mary Ann would be 29,but it looks like she was no longer living at home by this time. I think Polly might be a middle name or nickname for Mary.
Jim's grandpa was Willis Franklin Hodge. I think the Franklin was carried down from Elijah Franklin Hodge.I think it was on the Lamar marriage records online that I had seen Samuel Jackson Hodge as the other twin's name.
There is an Alexander Hodge in the 1840 Osage Twp., Carroll County, Arkansas Census. I think it might be our Alexander.I don't know for sure, since it only lists the head of family for that year. I guess he would be in Tenn. for the 1830 Census. Where in Tennessee is a mystery to me. I haven't been able to find them in the 1860 Census. As soon as I get time to go through it I will. I have a hunch they were still in Arkansas then.
